IS THERE A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE SABBATH AND YOUR HEALTH?
In Isaiah 58
the Sabbath, and service for God are closely linked,
with parallel blessings promised to us for observing both.
Fasting and service. God tells us that the fasting that He looks for is for service for others – for us to lift others burdens, for us to help those who are bound in their sins to find the peace and freedom from sin offered in the gospel. He asks us to share our food with those who are hungry and help the poor, to show hospitality to those less fortunate than ourselves. He reminds us that we are all of one, in the image of God, and when others are in need, maybe of clothing and we do not help, we are hiding from flesh and blood that is the same as ours. It is remembering that we are all the creation of God and in His image, that will dispel any racist thoughts or pride in our attainments. On the Sabbath in particular we are all equal before God whether we are rich or poor, intelligent or a plodder, black or white.
If we understand this on the Sabbath it will help us see people in the same way all week.
Many social and mental tensions could be lifted by understanding and keeping the seventh day Sabbath of the Creator.
God says that if we follow what He says, our health will break forth speedily and our life and light will break forth as the morning. What an uplifting experience! He says we shall be guided and satisfied by Him and we shall be as a watered garden that does not have times of drought.
