THE BLESSING AND PRIVILEGE OF THE SABBATH
The Sabbath commandment is for all of us.
At the end of the week we all have tired bodies and minds.
The Sabbath commandment is for families. The commandment speaks specifically of the head of the home. He knows the responsibilities that come with working and keeping a home.
God also talks of the children – the boys and the girls who get tired during the week. The Sabbath is for them.
The Sabbath commandment is for those who work for others. They are given a Sabbath too. So if you have people working for you God has designed that they should have a day of rest too.
God did not forget the animals of the house and farm. They too, are to have a quiet time when they can relax and rest and not be put under pressure by their human masters.
The rest of the Sabbath is also for those who are living with us as guests under our roof. They are to be encouraged to keep the Sabbath with us. Sometimes in the Bible, strangers can mean those who are not of our country. The Sabbath was a gift for the entire human race and if we know the blessing of the Sabbath we should share those blessings, and teach others the gifts of our Creator God.
In Bible days those who had been made eunuchs, like Daniel had been, could feel cut off from God and unfruitful. God knew their distress and made this promise to them. Interestingly, it was connected with the Sabbath. ‘For thus saith the Lord unto the eunuchs that keep my Sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant, even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and daughters.’ Isaiah 56:4,5.
